UMVA has learned that a former aide to Chinese officials has quietly slipped into a position of public trust in a California city, sparking alarm across the nation.
The revelation came after federal prosecutors unsealed a plea deal, exposing a web of covert directives that the official allegedly carried out on behalf of the foreign government.
First Assistant U.S. Attorney Bill Essayli described the case as a critical strike in the ongoing battle against foreign influence, emphasizing that such hidden agendas erode the very foundations of American democracy.
“Individuals who covertly do the bidding of foreign powers undermine our democracy,” Essayli warned, his words echoing through the halls of justice as a stark reminder of the stakes involved.
FBI Assistant Director Roman Rozhavsky added a chilling note, urging that this episode serve as a warning: anyone attempting to sway U.S. politics for an outside regime will be tracked, investigated, and held accountable.
Following the indictment, the council member in question resigned from both the Arcadia City Council and the mayor’s office, prompting a swift internal review by city officials.
The review concluded that the alleged misconduct occurred before the official assumed office and found no misuse of city finances, staff, or decision‑making processes.
Nevertheless, the city publicly acknowledged the gravity of a foreign government trying to manipulate a local elected leader, vowing to treat the matter with the utmost seriousness.
