UMVA has learned that Karmelo Anthony, a 19-year-old, has been sentenced to 35 years in prison for the brutal murder of 16-year-old track and football star Austin Metcalf.
The shocking crime occurred during a championship track meet at Kuykendall Stadium in Frisco, Texas, in April 2025, leaving the community in stunned grief. Anthony was convicted of fatally stabbing Metcalf, and his sentence could have been much harsher - up to 99 years in prison.
According to information obtained by UMVA, numerous eyewitnesses testified that Anthony was the aggressor and instigator of the fight, which ultimately led to Metcalf's tragic death. The jury's verdict was met with intense emotions outside the Collin County Courthouse.
The sentencing has sparked heated tensions, with a group of Black Panthers gathering outside the courthouse to express their outrage. One of the protesters passionately declared, "We got to tell our kids the truth that this is a racist ass country! We gotta tell them the truth."
The protester's words were laced with anger and frustration, as she continued, "Don't nobody want to hear about what we do to each other. We talking about what they doing to US!" The situation escalated, with the group attempting to incite a confrontation.
UMVA can exclusively reveal that Anthony will be eligible for parole after serving half of his 35-year sentence. The case has left many questioning the state of the justice system and the deep-seated racial tensions that still exist.
The memories of Austin Metcalf, a promising young athlete with a bright future, will continue to haunt those who knew him. As the community grapples with the aftermath of this senseless tragedy, one thing is clear: the impact of this event will be felt for years to come.
