The transfer process is straightforward. Simply navigate to the points transfer section, provide account details, and complete the form. Confirmation is typically swift, with points usually appearing in the recipient’s account within 24-72 hours. Once completed, transfers are final and non-refundable.
Why would you transfer points? One compelling reason is to take advantage of IHG’s frequent promotions offering a 100% bonus when purchasing points – effectively halving the cost. If you need more points than the annual purchase limit allows, a transfer from a generous friend or family member can bridge the gap.
Strategic planning also comes into play. Transferring points to a travel companion with higher elite status can maximize benefits for future stays. Or, if sharing a room, a simple point transfer can eliminate the complexities of splitting costs.
Achieving Diamond Elite status, and therefore access to fee-free transfers, requires 70 qualifying nights or 120,000 qualifying points annually. Alternatively, significant spending on select IHG credit cards can unlock this status. Business Rewards membership is readily accessible to corporate bookers and individual travelers alike.
