Sacha Baron Cohen made a surprise appearance at Wimbledon during the men's final match on Sunday, dressed as his iconic comedy character Ali G. He wore a full marijuana-themed shellsuit and a hat that read 'Ali Gear'. This marked his second appearance at the tournament, as he had attended the day prior in his regular suit-wearing self.
The 54-year-old comedian posted a video to Instagram as Ali G, speaking from the seats at Centre Court, in which he described Jannik Sinner's victory over Alexander Zverev as 'boring'. In the video, Cohen as Ali G claimed that tennis was 'like a crap version of ping pong' and joked about selling recreational drugs at the tournament.
Wimbledon viewers at home had spotted a possible Ali G in the stands, but most assumed it wasn't Cohen himself. The post was made to an Instagram account for Cohen's alter ego, which had previously uploaded a snap promoting DVDs of the Da Ali G Show.
This appearance comes after Cohen completed filming on a new Ali G film, which is expected to follow up his 2002 cult hit Ali G Indahouse. Although no film title or release date has been confirmed, reports suggest that production wrapped up in the UK and the US.
Cohen originally gained fame playing the foul-mouthed Staines massive wannabe, first appearing on a British television programme. He has since made sporadic appearances as Ali G, including a stand-up set in Sydney in 2021 that shocked a comedy club audience.
In recent years, Cohen has explored other projects, including the satire film Ladies First, which performed well on a popular streaming platform's ranking but received negative reviews from critics.
