A tense scene unfolded in North York this week as police executed search warrants at a home and a vehicle, leading to the arrest of four individuals facing serious firearm charges.
During the searches near Keele Street and Finch Avenue West, officers allege a loaded firearm was thrown from a balcony in an attempt to evade detection, only to be recovered nearby. A second firearm was subsequently found inside the vehicle.
Joshua Parag, 25, faces the most extensive list of charges, including uttering death threats and multiple counts related to the possession and unsafe storage of firearms and prohibited weapons, alongside a violation of a release order.
Derek Parag, 56, Jasmine Parag, 21, and Wendy Parag, 55, all face charges of unauthorized firearm possession, possession of prohibited weapons, careless storage, and possession of prohibited devices. Wendy Parag also faces additional charges related to unloaded regulated firearms.
In a separate incident, police are urgently seeking the public’s help to identify a man accused of sexually assaulting a woman in the Flemingdon Park area early Thursday morning.
The assault occurred in the hallway of an apartment building on St. Dennis Drive near Linkwood Lane, where the suspect allegedly followed the victim and committed the act before fleeing when confronted. Thankfully, the victim did not sustain any physical injuries.
Investigators describe the suspect as a male, approximately 25 to 30 years old, standing around 6 feet tall with an average build and short dark hair. He was last seen wearing a brown hoodie, a dark blue zip-up jacket, and light brown shoes with white soles.
Meanwhile, a 15-year-old pedestrian is in critical condition after being struck by a vehicle near St. Oscar Romero Catholic Secondary School on Humber Boulevard. The collision occurred Wednesday afternoon as the teen was crossing at a marked crosswalk.
A black Toyota Corolla Cross, driven by a 71-year-old man, struck the pedestrian, resulting in life-threatening injuries. The driver remained at the scene, and police are appealing for any security or dashcam footage of the incident.
These incidents underscore a period of heightened concern for public safety, with authorities actively investigating and seeking information to bring those responsible to justice.
