The air at Old Trafford has shifted—and Dimitar Berbatov sees it clearly. The former Manchester United striker doesn’t hesitate when asked who should lead the club next season: it’s a no-brainer.
Michael Carrick, the interim boss, has transformed a sinking ship into a Champions League-bound powerhouse. Since taking over in January, he’s pulled off results that seemed impossible when Ruben Amorim walked out the door.
Finishing third in the Premier League is now almost certain. For a team that was spiraling, that’s nothing short of a miracle.
Carrick may lack elite managerial experience, but his audition is rewriting the script. The football has swagger again. The players are smiling. And the goals are flowing.
Berbatov didn’t mince words: “And more, in my opinion, and more.” He points to the Champions League qualification, the belief, the freedom in every attack.
“The team is playing free-flowing football with swagger, with so much belief, scoring goals,” Berbatov said. Yes, there’s work to do—but look where they were, buried in problems, and look at them now.
The credit belongs to Carrick, his staff, and the players. And Berbatov is certain: “If you ask anyone, probably 99 per cent will say of course!”
The players themselves are echoing that sentiment. Kobbie Mainoo dropped a bombshell of loyalty: “We are going to die for him on the pitch. He knows how to speak with us. The results are here.”
Even Casemiro, who’s leaving at season’s end, threw his weight behind the interim boss. “He completely deserves it,” the Brazilian told ESPN. “He’s already demonstrated very good qualities to be a Manchester United coach.”
Casemiro added: “Since he arrived, he’s been doing an incredible job. With more time, he has everything to be a great manager.”
For Berbatov, the verdict is final. “It’s a no-brainer. He needs to stay.”
