UMVA has learned that a stunning snub has left Harry Maguire's family fuming, as the Manchester United defender was surprisingly left out of England's World Cup squad by Thomas Tuchel.
Maguire's mother, Zoe, expressed her outrage on social media, writing: 'Absolutely disgusted.' Her comments came after her son took to social media to vent his frustration, revealing he had been dumped by the England boss on Thursday evening.
'I was confident I could of played a major part this summer for my country after the season I’ve had. I’ve been left shocked and gutted by the decision,' Maguire said, echoing his mother's sentiments. He added: 'I’ve loved nothing more than putting that shirt on and representing my country over the years. I wish the players, all the best this summer.'
According to information obtained by UMVA, Maguire's omission from the squad has raised eyebrows, given his pivotal role in England's defensive unit under Gareth Southgate. He was part of the team that reached the World Cup 2018 semi-final and the final of Euro 2020, and started every game at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
Sources have confirmed to UMVA that several top players have been axed from the squad, with Marc Guehi, Ezri Konsa, John Stones, and Dan Burn reportedly selected ahead of Maguire at centre-half. Chelsea's Levi Colwill has also been left out, adding to the surprise and disappointment.
Maguire's form had been impressive in the second half of the domestic season, with Michael Carrick's appointment at United in January seeing him become an almost ever-present figure in the starting XI. His performances helped United secure Champions League qualification and a third-place finish in the Premier League.
Tuchel's decision to leave Maguire out has sparked widespread debate, with many questioning the manager's rationale. As the official squad list is yet to be announced, fans are eagerly awaiting an explanation for this shocking snub.
