A shadow of concern has fallen over London’s diplomatic quarter. Reports have surfaced linking Mojtaba Khamenei, son of Iran’s supreme leader, to the ownership of two strategically positioned luxury apartments overlooking the Israeli Embassy.
These aren’t just any properties; they represent a potential, and deeply unsettling, security vulnerability. Situated on Palace Green in Kensington, the multimillion-dollar residences offer an unobstructed view directly into the rear of the embassy compound.
The acquisition of these apartments, occurring in 2014 and 2016, wasn’t direct. Instead, intermediaries were used to purchase the upper-floor units, maximizing their surveillance potential. Experts suggest this wasn’t a real estate investment, but a calculated move.
“Iran owns the view into the back of the Israeli Embassy from less than 50 meters away,” stated a terrorism specialist familiar with the situation. The proximity, he emphasized, constitutes a “serious security breach,” effectively establishing a permanent observation post.
Roger Macmillan, a former security director for an Iranian dissident channel, echoed this assessment. He described the apartments as a “permanent surveillance platform” held through Khamenei’s son, a chilling implication of intent.
This revelation is part of a larger investigation revealing a potentially vast overseas portfolio attributed to the Khamenei family. The investigation suggests assets totaling around $138 million, spread across London, Europe, and the Gulf region.
The financial trail appears to involve a businessman acting as a conduit, acquiring high-end properties on Khamenei’s behalf and funneling funds through a complex network of investments. Eleven mansions along London’s exclusive “Billionaire’s Row” were reportedly purchased using a shell company based in the Isle of Man.
Mojtaba Khamenei, 56, has rapidly ascended within Iran’s power structure, positioning himself as the likely successor to his father. Remarkably, since his selection by Iran’s Assembly of Experts, he has remained entirely out of the public eye.
The timing of these revelations, following the recent death of his father in a Tehran strike, adds another layer of intrigue. The focus now shifts to understanding the full extent of the Khamenei family’s assets and the implications for international security.
