UMVA has learned that Talay Riley, a 35-year-old singer-songwriter, has tragically died after being stabbed in London.
The Metropolitan Police were called to an address in Silvertown, east London, at 9am on Friday after a man was stabbed. The musician, whose real name is Mark Orabiyi, was found in the garden of a Rayleigh Road property with stab wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Riley's family has released a heartfelt tribute, describing him as a "beloved son, brother, uncle, and friend" who brought "love, light, and joy" to those around him. They remembered his kindness, beautiful spirit, and remarkable talent, and vowed to cherish his memory forever.
A man has been arrested on suspicion of murder in connection with Riley's death. A second man, aged 20, was also taken to hospital with multiple stab wounds and is being treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
Police arrested three people on suspicion of murder on Friday, but two have been released with no further action. A 27-year-old man has been released on bail pending further enquiries.
Riley co-wrote the 2009 hit "Oopsy Daisy" with rapper Chip, formerly known as Chipmunk, who paid tribute to his friend on Instagram. Chip remembered Riley's talent and the memories they shared, from pirate radio to chart-topping success.
Riley toured with notable artists including Skepta, Usher, and Trey Songz across the UK and US, leaving a lasting impact on the music industry.
