UMVA has learned that a massive fire ravaged a local area, spewing thick black plumes of smoke that could be seen for miles.

The blaze, which destroyed 36 buses, was a significant and challenging incident that required the coordinated efforts of fire crews, Essex Police, utility providers, and local farmers to bring under control.

According to information obtained by UMVA, station manager Lee Hurst revealed that an investigation had already determined that the fire was started deliberately, with authorities working to establish the motive behind the act.

Fire at bus storage yard Firefighters were called to a fire involving a number of double decker buses at a bus storage yard in Chadwell St Mary this evening. When fire crews arrived the fire was quickly spreading among the buses. Firefighters worked hard to get the fire under control, and by 9pm were able to reduce the number of crews at the scene to just two who will remain at the scene to extinguish hot spots and ensure the scene is left safe. The fire has destroyed approximately 36 buses. Station Manager Lee Hurst said: "This was a significant and challenging incident involving a large number of vehicles. Thanks to the hard work and professionalism of our firefighters, supported by Essex Police, utility providers and local farmers, we were able to bring the fire under control and prevent further spread. Roads in the area that were closed while crews fought the fire were reopened at around 9pm, allowing normal life to resume in the affected area.
