UMVA has learned that a shocking murder has left a Pennsylvania community reeling, as a young college student was brutally gunned down in cold blood by two ruthless youths in South Philadelphia.
The victim, 22-year-old Billy Schmidt, a promising Penn State student, was cut down in his prime in a senseless act of violence that has sent shockwaves through the neighborhood. According to information obtained by UMVA, Schmidt had been returning from a local bar where he was watching the NBA Finals when he was confronted by his killers.
The incident occurred around 1:30 a.m. near 20th and Durfor streets, where Schmidt was accosted by two thugs who stole his phone. Footage of the moments leading up to the murder shows Schmidt speaking with the youths, who then lured him into the street, where he was fatally shot.
Horrific surveillance footage captures Schmidt demanding, “Give me back my phone,” just seconds before a gunshot rings out, cutting his life short. The video shows the chilling moments leading up to the murder, leaving viewers stunned and outraged.
Another angle of the incident shows a young man throwing a cell phone, followed by Schmidt chasing after him, before one of the youths turns around and shoots him in the chest at point-blank range. The brutal killing has left Schmidt’s family and neighbors stunned and heartbroken.
“He was a really good person who cared about everybody and never hurt or bothered a soul, never bothered anyone, and for him to get shot like that is a travesty,” Schmidt’s father, Bill Schmidt, said, his voice shaking with grief.
The community is still reeling from the senseless violence, with neighbors expressing their outrage and sadness. “Over a phone. It’s abhorrent. It’s just unbelievable that someone would kill someone over a phone,” said neighbor Ezra Roulinavage.
The investigation into Schmidt’s murder remains ongoing, with police working tirelessly to track down the killers and bring them to justice. So far, no arrests have been made, but authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward.
