Angel Canino, a standout player from De La Salle University, expressed her gratitude and excitement at being included in the 21-player pool for the Philippine Olympic Committee's Asian Games lineup.
During the Collegiate Press Corps awards ceremony at the Discovery Suites, where she was recognized as the best UAAP volleyball player, Canino shared her enthusiasm about having another chance to represent Alas Pilipinas.
Canino last played for the national team in the Southeast Asian Games in December, where they finished fourth in Thailand.
She was one of the players who declined the national team call-up for the AVC Women's Cup in Candon, Ilocos Sur, citing personal reasons, but this time around, she is eager for a successful outcome.
"But of course, we're still in the process of preparing," Canino said. "Hopefully everything that will happen when it comes to the Asian Games will align and hopefully we'll be supportive of one another."
Canino's coach at La Salle, Ramil de Jesus, expressed pride and happiness at her inclusion in the national team, calling it a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.
"It also helps us in our UAAP preparation because being in the national team makes you sharp," de Jesus said.
