PALESTINE PROTEST ERUPTS: 500+ ARRESTED – GRANDMAS IN CAMPING CHAIRS LEAD THE CHARGE!

A wave of arrests swept through Trafalgar Square on Saturday, as over 500 individuals were detained for demonstrating support for Palestine Action. The scene unfolded as a stark display of defiance and police response, with individuals ranging in age from 18 to 87 taken into custody.

The Metropolitan Police declared the gathering “likely to involve offending rather than a lawful protest,” and moved swiftly to enforce the ban on the organization. Images emerged of officers carefully, yet firmly, carrying elderly protesters – some with walking sticks, others seated in camping chairs – away from the demonstration.

Banners proclaiming “Jurors deserve to hear the whole truth” and “Israel starves kids” stood as silent testaments to the demonstrators’ convictions. A woman’s voice cut through the tension, shouting, “Yeah she looks like a terrorist doesn’t she mate,” as officers escorted a grey-haired woman from the square.

The atmosphere was charged with emotion as protesters chanted “shame on you” at the officers. One woman, lying with her eyes closed amidst a circle of police and onlookers, prompted urgent calls for medical attention. Despite the arrests, a spirit of resistance remained palpable.

The Labour government’s decision to proscribe Palestine Action in 2025 fueled the demonstration, organized by Defend Our Juries, who argued the ban was a dangerous overreach. Protesters believe this sets a precedent for suppressing dissent and curtailing fundamental freedoms.

A 69-year-old demonstrator, a grandmother who asked to remain anonymous, expressed unwavering commitment. “Of course not,” she replied when asked if the threat of arrest would deter her. “It is the most important thing… a real takeover of the world and its resources. It’s terrifying.”

Yael Kahn, a woman with a deeply personal connection to the conflict, shared a poignant reflection. Having cared for political prisoners in Gaza, she wished similar displays of solidarity had existed during the Holocaust, expressing “absolute adoration” for the protesters in Trafalgar Square.

Ms. Kahn voiced a stark accusation, stating that police were focusing on those demonstrating support, while failing to investigate those “whose hands are full, covered in blood, of children, of women.” Her words underscored the protesters’ belief that the focus of law enforcement was misplaced.

The arrests are part of a larger pattern, with over 3,000 individuals detained across the country for allegedly supporting Palestine Action since the ban. Protesters are intentionally overwhelming the justice system with mass rallies, holding signs declaring their support for the organization.

Former Metropolitan Police chief superintendent Dal Babu acknowledged the operational challenges posed by such large-scale, willing arrests. He warned that the optics of the situation would be “very challenging” for the police, requiring careful management and a clear understanding of the intelligence available.

The legal battle surrounding the ban continues, with the High Court’s initial ruling against the government currently under appeal. Until the case is resolved, the arrests are set to continue, raising fundamental questions about the limits of protest and the right to dissent in a democratic society.
