UKRAINE UNDER SIEGE: 16 DEAD – RUSSIA’S RELENTLESS ONSLAUGHT!

UKRAINE UNDER SIEGE: 16 DEAD – RUSSIA’S RELENTLESS ONSLAUGHT!

A relentless barrage of nearly 700 drones and dozens of missiles rained down on Ukraine, stretching from daylight into the darkness, leaving a trail of devastation and claiming at least 16 lives. More than 80 others were injured as civilians desperately sought shelter, the hours-long assault triggering widespread terror.

The attack, the largest in nearly two weeks, deliberately targeted civilian areas, turning homes into scenes of shattered glass and twisted metal. In Kyiv, Tetiana Sokol, 54, recounted the terrifying moments when missiles struck near her home, forcing her to huddle in a hallway with her dog as explosions rocked the night.

“Everything broke, everything flew,” Sokol described, her voice trembling. “We were shocked, didn’t know where to run. I grabbed whatever I could and fled with the dog.” The aftermath left her searching for her missing cats, her home stripped of windows, and her canine companion deeply shaken.

For over four years, Russia has systematically targeted Ukrainian civilians, a grim pattern of near-daily strikes punctuated by these massive, overwhelming attacks. The United Nations estimates that more than 15,000 Ukrainian civilians have perished in these strikes, a staggering human cost.

The latest onslaught followed a critical 48-hour mission by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to secure vital air defense systems from Germany, Norway, and Italy. He urgently seeks the means to intercept the relentless waves of Russian missiles and drones.

While Ukraine has fostered a growing domestic arms industry, particularly in drone technology, it still relies on advanced systems like the U.S. Patriot to effectively counter the Russian threat. Securing allies’ support for both purchasing and building more robust air defenses remains Ukraine’s top priority.

Adding to the urgency, Ukraine fears that the ongoing conflict in the Middle East is depleting stockpiles of these crucial American-made systems. Zelenskyy has also vehemently opposed a temporary U.S. waiver on Russian oil sanctions, arguing it directly funds the Kremlin’s war machine.

“Another night has proven that Russia does not deserve any easing of global policy or lifting of sanctions,” Zelenskyy declared. He expressed gratitude for new agreements with Germany, Norway, and Italy, while also acknowledging that some partner nations have yet to fulfill their pledges of military aid.

The bombardment wasn’t limited to Kyiv. In Odesa, nine people were killed and 23 injured. The Dnipro region saw three women killed and dozens more wounded. Zaporizhzhia also suffered a fatality. The attacks left a landscape of destruction, damaging apartment buildings, homes, hotels, shopping malls, and critical infrastructure.

Ukraine’s air force reported intercepting 667 out of 703 incoming targets, a testament to their resilience and the effectiveness of their air defense systems, despite the sheer volume of the attack. However, 20 strike drones and 12 missiles still managed to reach their targets.

Across the border, in Russia, Ukrainian strikes also caused casualties. A 14-year-old girl and a woman were killed in Tuapse, a Black Sea port, with damage reported to residential buildings and schools. Russia’s Defense Ministry claimed to have downed 207 Ukrainian drones overnight.

Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha condemned the attacks as “war crimes that must be stopped,” demanding accountability for the perpetrators. The scale of the devastation underscores the urgent need for sustained international support and a renewed commitment to ending the conflict.
