Authorities have arrested a man found hiding in a refrigerator after a months-long investigation into his abusive control over a survivor. The suspect, identified as Dean Foord, 33, was charged with multiple offenses following a trial that revealed systemic manipulation and violence.
Foord subjected the survivor to strict isolation, confiscating her phone and destroying it when allowed, while also controlling her access to friends and family. He restricted her movements, requiring permission to leave the home and locking her in a room under degrading conditions. Financial exploitation further trapped her, as Foord gambled, spent, and stole her funds to pay for drugs, alcohol, and other vices.
The abuse escalated to physical violence, including choking, pushing, and head-banging. When the victim attempted to flee, the suspect pursued her, shattered a window with a brick, and filmed himself threatening her with a knife. Additional acts included hurling a bucket of water at her and leaving her in a state of terror. Cocaine possession was also discovered during his December 2025 arrest.
After pleading guilty to charges including controlling behavior, criminal damage, assault, and drug offenses, Foord received a three-year prison sentence. A law enforcement official emphasized the case’s significance, stating the suspect used “fear, violence, and intimidation” to dominate the survivor’s life. The official added that hiding in a refrigerator during the search underscored authorities’ commitment to holding offenders accountable.
Authorities praised the survivor’s bravery in cooperating with the investigation to secure the conviction. The case highlights systemic patterns of coercive control, with officials urging victims to seek help through available legal and community resources.
