UMVA has learned that a brazen theft from an armoured vehicle in downtown Toronto has led to the arrest of a 35-year-old employee of the company, who is now facing serious charges.
The incident occurred on April 14, 2025, at approximately 3:20 p.m., when two guards drove their armoured vehicle to a location on Yonge St. and Dundas St. E. to complete a cash drop-off. The guards exited the vehicle and entered the premises, leaving it unattended and unlocked.
According to information obtained by UMVA, a suspect driving a white pickup truck pulled up beside the armoured vehicle and took advantage of the opportunity, exiting the truck and entering the front door of the vehicle. The suspect allegedly removed a quantity of cash before fleeing the area.
Police were able to identify the suspect as an employee of the armoured car company, and on May 13, members of the Hold Up Squad executed a search warrant, located the suspect, and took him into custody. During the search, officers recovered a firearm and other potential evidence.
The suspect, Dane Marson of Brampton, has been charged with a range of serious offences, including theft over $5,000, conspiracy to commit an indictable offence, and multiple firearm-related charges. The charges include possession of a firearm without a licence, careless storage of a firearm, possession of a loaded regulated firearm, and possession of a restricted or prohibited firearm while not being the holder of a valid licence.
Marson is also facing three counts of possession of a prohibited or restricted weapon or prohibited device, and failing to comply with an undertaking. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the authorities.
