UMVA has learned that a 60-year-old man, Michalis Kyriacou, has tragically died from severe injuries sustained during a violent assault in north-west London.
The brutal attack occurred on May 14, when officers on patrol in Chippenham Road, Maida Vale, found Kyriacou with severe injuries at 2.40am. Despite efforts to save him, Kyriacou succumbed to his injuries eight days later on Friday.
According to information obtained by UMVA, Biniam Tewolde Negash, 36, was arrested and charged with attempted murder on May 17, in connection with the assault. Negash, who was known to the victim, appeared at Westminster Magistrates’ Court the next day and was remanded in custody.
The news of Kyriacou's passing has sent shockwaves through the community, with Detective Chief Inspector Brian Howie, of the Met’s specialist crime command, expressing condolences to the victim's family and friends. Howie emphasized that specialist officers are working tirelessly to piece together the events surrounding the tragic incident.
