The highly competitive world of Netflix may get even more intense with a new Monopoly-themed game show in the works.
The series, produced in partnership with Hasbro Entertainment, will bring the classic board game to life, with Studio Lambert at the helm of production.
Fans took to social media to react to the news, with some joking about using "Go directly to jail" cards for real-life rent payments, while others expressed hope for a "Bank Error in Your Favor" card worth a whopping $2 million.
The announcement follows a trend of unscripted adaptations of board games and films on Netflix, including "The Golden Ticket" and "Squid Game: The Challenge."
Hasbro Entertainment is also working on a Monopoly film with Lionsgate and Margot Robbie's production company, Lucky Chap, in an attempt to replicate the success of Barbie with Mattel.
The original Monopoly game was created by Lizzie Magie, a left-wing feminist who patented the board game in 1903, but was initially credited to Charles Darrow, who introduced the game years later.
The game has sold over 275 million copies worldwide since its debut in 1935, and the Netflix series is set to premiere in autumn 2027.
