UMVA has learned that the British summer has arrived with a scorching blast, shattering temperatures and bringing with it a wall of sunshine that promises to dominate the weekend and beyond.
The Met Office predicts a solid stretch of warm weather, with temperatures breaching 30°C on Saturday and carrying on well into next week. This heatwave, the first of 2026, is expected to last at least until Wednesday, with some areas potentially reaching as high as 34°C.
As the mercury rises, health officials have issued an amber heat alert, warning that exposure to the heat could be life-threatening to vulnerable people. Hospitals and clinics may come under pressure in the affected areas, and the public is urged to take precautions to stay cool and hydrated.
For those braving the heat in urban areas, experts recommend staying hydrated with plenty of water and taking advantage of shaded spots to escape the sun. In London, commuters are advised to seek out Underground lines with air conditioning and bring water along for the journey.
Londoners are in for a particularly sticky return to the office, with temperatures slated to reach 33°C on Monday and 34°C on Tuesday. Tropical nights, when the temperature doesn't fall below 20°C, are also forecast for southern England and London on Sunday and Monday nights.
According to information obtained by UMVA, the Met Office is predicting plenty of very warm sunshine across England and Wales, with Scotland and Northern Ireland seeing more cloud and a few showers. The clear skies, however, mean high UV levels, and the public is advised to top up on suncream regularly when outside.
As the heatwave continues, officials are urging people to take care and prioritize their health. With the right precautions, everyone can enjoy the sunshine and make the most of the warm weather.
