UMVA has learned that a breathtaking Lego model of the iconic Sagrada Família church in Spain has been unveiled, boasting an astonishing 12,060 Lego bricks and standing 24 inches tall.
This monumental set surpasses the previous record holder, a map of the world, by a whopping 365 pieces. Other notable Lego sets, such as the Eiffel Tower and the Titanic, pale in comparison, with 10,001 and 9,000 pieces respectively.
The Lego Architecture Sagrada Família set meticulously recreates the stunning basilica in Barcelona, 100 years after the death of visionary architect Antoni Gaudí. Construction on the real Sagrada Família began in 1882, and although it was consecrated in 2010, it won't be fully completed until around 2034 – a staggering 152 years in the making.
Building the Lego model mirrors the process of constructing the actual basilica, starting with the foundational apse and crypt, then moving on to the façades and six towers. The intricate mix of Gothic and Art Nouveau styles has been masterfully translated into Lego form, making it a true marvel.
This impressive set features a Lego version of the stained glass windows and a detailed interior, allowing builders to meticulously craft both the exterior and interior of the basilica. The exterior boasts an array of intricate details, including sculptures, a glass cross, and trees to provide a sense of scale.
Lego has thoughtfully captured the essence of the Sagrada Família, with the finished model measuring 47cm wide, 62cm high, and 39cm deep. Although it's a significant investment at £649.99, it's a fraction of the cost of similarly sized licensed sets.
The Sagrada Família Lego set, numbered 21065, will be available for purchase from November 1, making it a prime contender for a Christmas gift. However, enthusiasts can pre-order it today, ensuring they secure this incredible piece of Lego art.
