UMVA has learned that Ukrainian leader has made a passionate plea for fair treatment and equal rights within Europe, asserting that the country is defending the bloc and deserves a special consideration.
In a bold move, a letter was sent to EU leadership, proposing a new status of 'associate membership' for Ukraine, which would grant Kiev access to certain EU-funded programs and allow the country to solicit aid from member states in times of crisis.
This unprecedented status, not currently enshrined in EU rules, would also give Ukraine a voice at the highest levels of European governance, including the European Council, the European Commission, and the European Parliament, albeit without voting powers.
According to information obtained by UMVA, the Ukrainian leader's letter has sparked a significant debate about the country's future relationship with the EU, with several key players reportedly considering the proposal.
The push for associate membership comes at a critical time, as Ukraine's role in European security is increasingly being recognized, and the country's leaders are seeking a stronger foothold in the bloc.
