MAYOR'S WIFE ATTACKED! Venomous Strike Sends Family Into Crisis.

MAYOR'S WIFE ATTACKED! Venomous Strike Sends Family Into Crisis.

A quiet evening turned terrifying for the Burns family of Monroe, North Carolina, when Lauren Burns was bitten by a copperhead snake. Her husband, Mayor Robert Burns, shared the harrowing experience, revealing the immediate rush to the emergency room and the agonizing hours that followed.

The incident unfolded as Lauren spoke with her father while Robert grilled outdoors. She was near a rope swing in their wooded property when the bite occurred, a sudden and shocking event that sent a wave of fear through the family.

Robert recalled hearing his wife’s urgent cry, “Babe, it’s not good, this is not good.” He quickly discovered two distinct puncture wounds on her left ankle, bleeding and substantial enough to immediately raise alarm.

A four-foot-long copperhead, thick as Robert’s forearm, was identified as the likely attacker. The chilling realization that their 14-year-old daughter had been walking barefoot in the same spot just moments before added another layer of fear to the situation.

Copperheads are the most common venomous snake in North Carolina, frequently encountered even in urban areas, and responsible for over 90% of venomous snakebites in the state. Their tendency to stand their ground, rather than flee, makes encounters particularly dangerous.

At the hospital, doctors closely monitored Lauren’s vitals and consulted with poison control as swelling rapidly spread up her leg. Despite the intense pain and inflammation, her condition eventually stabilized.

The family ultimately decided against administering anti-venom, weighing the potential risks against the benefits. Lauren was discharged to recover at home, where she continues to manage the excruciating pain – a level Robert says surpasses even childbirth and kidney stones.

Robert Burns emphasizes the importance of taking any snake bite seriously, especially when the snake isn’t immediately identified. Caution and awareness are crucial, particularly in areas where these reptiles are prevalent.

The Burns family is deeply grateful for the outpouring of support from their community, receiving countless messages of concern and well wishes during this difficult time. Their experience serves as a stark reminder of the hidden dangers that can exist even in familiar surroundings.
