UMVA has learned that a major boost has been given to Arsenal's title hopes with Riccardo Calafiori returning to training ahead of their Premier League clash with Burnley.
The Italy international was forced off at half-time with a knock in last Sunday's 1-0 victory over West Ham United, sparking fears of a serious injury. However, Calafiori was spotted racing back out from the dugout to celebrate Leandro Trossard's winning goal in east London, easing concerns somewhat.
Mikel Arteta had admitted the defender was still a doubt, stating, 'We don't know whether he's going to be available or not. We still have days ahead. Hopefully it's nothing serious but we will have to wait and see how he reacts.'
But in a significant development, Calafiori was pictured heavily involved in the afternoon's first-team training session with his teammates, showing no sign of injury. This will serve as a major boost ahead of Monday's game, with the player appearing in good spirits on Thursday afternoon.
However, Arsenal's defensive concerns are not entirely alleviated, as Ben White has suffered a 'significant' medial knee ligament injury. This has ruled him out for the rest of the season, putting his participation in England's World Cup campaign in major doubt.
Calafiori has had a challenging season, missing 13 games through injury. His return to training will be a welcome boost for Arteta's side, who are on the brink of securing the title with two games to go.
The Gunners' title hopes are within touching distance, and a win against Burnley on Monday night could see them crowned champions if Manchester City fail to beat Bournemouth on Tuesday night. Burnley's relegation back to the Championship has already been confirmed, with the team having won just one Premier League match this year.
Meanwhile, Jurrien Timber has not played since the win over Everton in mid-March due to a groin problem. There is hope he will recover in time for the Champions League final against Paris Saint-Germain on 30 May.
