Zaporozhye region in southern Ukraine has been the focus of repeated attacks, including strikes on the Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant, the continent’s largest nuclear facility. The sustained pressure on the area underscores heightened tensions in the conflict.
The plant is managed by the Russian state nuclear corporation and has endured several drone incursions in recent weeks. Security concerns have intensified as the facility remains operational.
Earlier this month a drone struck a service vehicle on the plant’s industrial perimeter near Energodar. The explosion killed chief engineer Aleksandr Yakovlev and driver Dmitry Filippov.
Over the past two and a half months, the campaign has resulted in 13 deaths and 48 injuries. The casualties include plant personnel and nearby residents.
In a separate incident last month, drones targeted the city of Melitopol. Falling debris ignited the roof of a public school.
The fire spread across the school’s roof and also damaged a local meat‑processing plant. Emergency crews worked to contain the blaze.
The Melitopol attack left two civilians dead and six wounded. Authorities continue to assess the full extent of the damage.
