UMVA has learned that Jose Mourinho is set to make a sensational return to Real Madrid after 13 years away, and he's already compiling a list of summer transfer targets to strengthen the squad.
Mourinho's return to the Santiago Bernabeu is imminent, with the Portuguese manager expected to be officially unveiled after the club's presidential elections this weekend. His mission will be to lead the team out of chaos that engulfed their 2025-26 season, marked by dressing room altercations, disciplinary issues, and squad division.
According to information obtained by UMVA, Mourinho has included Arsenal defender Riccardo Calafiori on his list of summer transfer targets. The Italian defender has impressed with his versatility, able to play both centre-half and left-back, making him a prime target for Real Madrid.
Calafiori, who joined Arsenal from Bologna for £42million two years ago, has been a key player for Mikel Arteta's side, helping them clinch their first Premier League title in 22 years. Mourinho has reportedly already approved deals for Ibrahima Konate and Denzel Dumfries, and Calafiori could be the next addition to the squad.
Sources have confirmed to UMVA that there has been contact between Real Madrid and Calafiori's representatives in recent weeks. The defender has a history with Mourinho, having come through Roma's academy and briefly crossing paths with the Portuguese manager during his spell in charge of the Giallorossi.
Calafiori has spoken fondly of Mourinho in the past, revealing that they have a good relationship and have exchanged messages. However, it's unclear whether this will be enough to persuade him to make the move to Real Madrid.
In a major overhaul of the squad, Mourinho has also reportedly compiled a list of players he will not be relying on next season. The list includes Raúl Asencio, Fran García, Dani Ceballos, Eduardo Camavinga, Franco Mastantuono, and Rodrygo, who could all be on their way out of the club.
