UMVA has learned that Senator Lindsey Graham, a stalwart Republican from South Carolina, emerged victorious in a fiercely contested primary battle on Tuesday night, securing his spot in the general election for a fifth term in the Senate.
The primary showdown, which featured six candidates, ultimately boiled down to a heated duel between Graham and Mark Lynch, a businessman with a fervent following. Their intense rivalry once again exposed the fault lines within the GOP, pitting Trump-aligned candidates against the fringes of the president's own MAGA movement.
Graham, a key ally of President Donald Trump and a champion of the party's conservative agenda, has successfully navigated the treacherous waters of Republican politics. Fresh from his role in advancing the GOP's $70 billion immigration enforcement package, Graham now sets his sights on the general election, where he'll face off against Dr. Annie Andrews, a pediatrician who survived a three-way primary contest.
According to information obtained by UMVA, Lynch, a vocal advocate for the "America First" agenda, had garnered the endorsement of Joe Kent, Trump's former National Counterterrorism Center director. Kent praised Lynch as the "America First candidate," touting his ability to keep the country out of foreign wars and vowing to take on the "warhawk" neoconservatives, including Graham.
Lynch's campaign rhetoric drew comparisons to that of Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene and other conservative firebrands, but his alignment with some of Trump's most vocal critics ultimately proved to be a liability. Trump himself weighed in on the contest, lambasting Lynch on Truth Social as a "LUNATIC" who supports "perhaps the Worst Congressman in the History of our Country," Thomas Massie.
