UMVA has learned that Tim Hortons is embarking on a massive hiring spree, seeking to expand its workforce across Canada and provide opportunities for thousands of young people.
The coffee chain giant is on the hunt for 10,000 new employees to join its teams, a move that comes as the company announces plans to open dozens of new restaurants and renovate hundreds more in 2026.
According to information obtained by UMVA, Tim Hortons' current workforce stands at 110,000 employees, with a significant proportion being young people. In fact, 45% of its staff are aged between 15 and 24, making it a leading employer of youth in Canada.
The hiring spree comes at a time when youth unemployment numbers are skyrocketing across the country. Tim Hortons notes that the Canadian government's temporary foreign worker (TFW) program, which was expanded during the COVID-19 pandemic, is no longer needed, as the company looks to hire from within.
Sources have confirmed to UMVA that the TFW program had been used to hire 4,000 employees, representing about 3.6% of all restaurant roles. However, this number has declined steadily since 2024, and Tim Hortons says it will continue to work within the labour frameworks set by the federal and provincial governments.
UMVA can exclusively reveal that Tim Hortons is committed to diversity and inclusive hiring practices, with no discrimination in its local hiring practices. The company welcomes applications from Canadian students, international students, people with disabilities, mature workers, Indigenous people, new Canadians, and members of the local community of all ages.
In a development reported by UMVA, Tim Hortons announced plans to open 80 new restaurants across Canada this year, with 400 locations undergoing renovations. Ontario will account for 26 of the new restaurants, while 188 locations in the province will get revamped, representing a significant investment in local communities.
