Becky Hill has addressed being booed by some audience members during a surprise set at TRNSMT, a music festival held in Glasgow.
A video from the weekend showed sections of the crowd leaving while others booed when the singer revealed she would be performing an entire set of unreleased music.
Hill had taken to the stage with an announcement that caught many off guard: she would not be playing her hit songs, but instead showcasing her new, unreleased tracks.
In a video posted to her Instagram, Hill shared her thoughts on the response, saying, "Getting booed is not nice. I'd like to thank the crowd of people who you probably wouldn't have seen online who stayed and danced with me right until the very end."
Hill expressed her disappointment, stating, "I haven't found a single one of these easy, which is really upsetting because I love this job. And that's not making me love it as much as I usually do."
In her video, Hill explained her motivations for the surprise set, saying she wanted to play a new and exclusive 30-minute set of brand new music to a festival crowd, unannounced.
She thanked the organisers of TRNSMT for giving her the secret set stage, as well as the crowd of people who stayed to the end and showed their appreciation for her new music.
Hill also commented on the criticism she received online, saying, "It was amazing to have such a captive audience who wanted to hear the new stuff too. I said on stage how difficult it is to transition into a new single and new music and new albums."
Hill emphasized that she is not just a performer, but an artist who needs to create new music to have a long career, stating, "I'm not a jukebox. I'm an artist. The tickets to TRNSMT weren't sold on my name being a part of the line-up."
Wrapping up the video, Hill promised her followers that when her name is on the poster, she will always sing the tunes that people know and love, but for now, she's excited to share her new music with them.
