UMVA has learned that Canada Post is bracing for potential disruptions to its services during the FIFA World Cup 2026 events in Toronto, which may leave some customers experiencing minor inconveniences.
The warning comes as the federal postal agency prepares for a potentially chaotic period, with the FIFA Fan Festival set to take over areas of the city from June 11 to July 19. During this time, fans will gather at Fort York and The Bentway, and at Toronto Stadium at Exhibition Place, which may lead to increased traffic and road closures.
According to information obtained by UMVA, Canada Post has identified specific dates and times when service interruptions are likely to occur, including six match days: June 12, June 17, June 20, June 23, June 26, and July 2. On these days, customers living in neighborhoods with postal codes M6K, M6J, and M5V may experience delays or interruptions to their mail delivery.
Canada Post has assured customers that all efforts will be made to deliver mail on weekdays with matches, but any undelivered mail will be held securely at the depot and prioritized for delivery the next business day. The postal agency has also identified several post offices that may experience temporary delays in mail processing and delivery on certain match days, including locations on Queens Quay W., King St. W., Ossington Ave., and Queen St. W.
Sources have confirmed to UMVA that Canada Post will remove street letter boxes within the event boundaries until July 22, and commercial customer pickups will not be completed in impacted areas on match days. Customers are advised to plan ahead and use alternative services, such as the post office at 1093 Queen St. W., if needed.
Canada Post has thanked affected customers for their patience, acknowledging that the disruptions are a necessary consequence of hosting a major international sporting event. Customers with questions or concerns can contact Canada Post's customer service team for support.
