Toronto Waterfront Shooting Suspect Awaiting Sentencing

Omar Abdul Singateh, 25, from Brampton, is charged following a shooting at Polson Pier. He exchanged gunfire with another individual and then carjacked a rideshare vehicle. Emergency crews responded near Polson Street and Cherry Street early Sunday morning.

The incident resulted in three people sustaining gunshot wounds. All injuries were deemed non‑life‑threatening, and a firearm was recovered from the vehicle used in the escape. Singateh and the other suspect were transported to hospital for treatment.

Singateh now faces multiple charges, including firearms offences, forcible confinement, and robbery. The charges stem from both the Polson Pier incident and earlier criminal conduct. His case has yet to be tried in court.

Earlier this year, Singateh pleaded guilty to a violent cryptocurrency robbery in Montreal. He traveled hundreds of kilometres from Brampton to the city to carry out the crime. The robbery involved the torture of a victim in his apartment.

Court documents indicate that Singateh waited outside the victim’s condominium for more than 24 hours before entering with an accomplice. The victim was bound with zip‑ties and subjected to hours of physical abuse. Instructions were received via an encrypted messaging app, directing Singateh to limit the severity of the beating.

The victim was forced to wear wet clothing and was exposed to loud music to suppress his screams. After the victim provided $15,000, the perpetrators demanded additional money but were refused. They left the scene around 3 p.m. after the victim ceased to provide further funds.

In May, Singateh pleaded guilty to unlawful confinement, breaking and entering, armed robbery, and assault causing bodily harm. The plea came shortly before the trial was scheduled to begin. He is expected to return to court in October.

The case underscores the seriousness of violent crimes linked to cryptocurrency theft. Authorities continue to investigate the full extent of Singateh’s criminal activities. The outcome of the upcoming trial will determine his legal fate.
