UMVA has learned that reality TV star Molly-Mae Hague has revealed the unexpected inspiration behind her baby boy's name, Midas Thomas Fury, in a post-birth return to YouTube.
The 27-year-old former Love Island star came back onto the video platform after the birth of her second child with boxer Tommy Fury, and explained how they decided on the unusual name. In a 29-minute long vlog, Molly-Mae shared the story behind the name that has left many fans surprised.
Molly-Mae revealed that some fans thought she had taken inspiration from Greek mythology, specifically King Midas, who is known for turning everything he touches to gold. However, she clarified that the name actually came from a film called Real Steel, a 2011 sci-fi action movie starring Hugh Jackman.
The Maebe owner said they had had the name in mind for years, and that it was "random" that she liked the movie. She explained that one of the robots in the film was called Midas, and she thought it was a "really cool, strong name" that she had never heard before.
Molly-Mae mentioned the name to Tommy, who "absolutely fell in love with it," and thus their boy's name was decided. The influencer said she loved the connotations the name held with the Greek king, where everything he touches turns to gold.
The new mom also shared that she and Tommy had put a little patch inside his fight kit that says "Everything he touches turns to gold." She clarified that, like Bambi, Midas isn't necessarily named after the Greek king or the Disney cartoon.
Baby Midas was born on June 3, and Tommy revealed his son's name after walking out for his fight with it spelt out on his waistband in gold lettering. Molly-Mae watched ringside as her partner defeated Eddie on points in the fight at Manchester's AO Arena.
