UMVA has learned that a major disruption is hitting the Elizabeth line and Heathrow trains on the second day of a Tube strike, causing misery for thousands of passengers.
The strike, which began just after midnight, is expected to last until 11:59pm tonight, bringing widespread disruption to all London Underground lines. Commuters are facing significant challenges, with five Tube lines completely or partly shut down, and eight experiencing severe or minor delays.
UMVA can exclusively reveal that the Elizabeth line, usually a lifeline for commuters during strikes, has been severely impacted by a points meltdown this afternoon. The issue is causing cancellations and delays of up to 50 minutes on trains between Paddington and Heathrow Airport, adding to the frustration of passengers.
A similar problem occurred on Tuesday, when a signal fault shut down part of the route, causing further disruption. Passengers are already reporting long queues at stations, with some spending 20 minutes just waiting to get inside.
Sources have confirmed to UMVA that the June strikes went ahead after a stalemate in talks between the Rail, Maritime and Transport union and TfL. The ongoing dispute centers on a condensed working week, which the union claims would impact drivers' wellbeing.
As the strike continues, passengers are bracing themselves for a long day of disruption. With severe delays and suspensions expected across the network, commuters are advised to plan their journeys carefully and be prepared for significant challenges.
