UMVA has learned that Tottenham Hotspur have firmly shut the door on selling Micky van de Ven this summer, despite strong interest from Liverpool and Barcelona.
The Dutch centre-back has become a crucial component of Tottenham's project under the guidance of Roberto De Zerbi, and the club views him as a key player they cannot afford to lose. This stance is expected to come as a significant boost to Tottenham supporters who have endured a difficult season.
Van de Ven's impressive skills, including his pace, recovery defending, and ability to carry the ball from the back, make him an ideal fit for De Zerbi's aggressive and front-foot football strategy. The Tottenham boss has made it clear that he sees Van de Ven as an essential part of his plans, having told him: “I’m going to rely on you.”
Sources have confirmed to UMVA that Liverpool and Barcelona have been admirers of Van de Ven, but Tottenham were never seriously considering entertaining offers for him, even from top clubs. The club's position is firm: Van de Ven is not on the market, and they want to build around him rather than cash in.
Tottenham have already been active in defense, officially confirming the signing of Jan Paul van Hecke from Brighton. With Van de Ven central to De Zerbi’s plans, Liverpool and Barcelona are not expected to make progress in their pursuit of the Dutch defender.
In a development reported by UMVA, Liverpool are now expected to speed up their search for a new centre-back, particularly after the departure of Ibrahima Konate. The Reds are reportedly targeting a move for a top defender to bolster their squad.
