Russell Brand has publicly acknowledged a past sexual relationship with a 16-year-old girl, a connection he now describes as “exploitative.” The admission came during a candid conversation on a podcast, forcing a reckoning with his behavior during the height of his fame.
Brand detailed the relationship occurred while he was 30, and while legal in both Europe and the United Kingdom where the age of consent is 16. However, he expressed deep regret, stating he was a far different, and less mature, person at that time.
He went further, suggesting that even consensual encounters, given the significant power dynamics he possessed – his ability to attract attention – carried an inherent element of exploitation. Brand acknowledged a lack of consideration for the impact his actions had on others.
This revelation arrives as Brand faces a series of serious criminal allegations in the UK, all of which he vehemently denies. He recently appeared in court, entering not guilty pleas to two additional charges of sexual offense, including rape and sexual assault, reportedly occurring in 2009.
Currently, Brand is contending with a total of seven charges: three counts of rape, three of sexual assault, and one of indecent assault. A trial is scheduled to begin in June of 2026, promising a highly scrutinized legal battle.

These allegations span a period from the late 1990s to the early 2000s, painting a disturbing picture of alleged misconduct.
Brand has consistently maintained his innocence, previously characterizing himself as a “fool” in his youth, a period marked by struggles with addiction. He insists he has never engaged in non-consensual activity, stating plainly, “I have never been a rapist.”
Specific allegations include a claim of rape in a hotel room during a Labour Party conference, and further accusations of assault within professional settings – a TV studio and a radio station. These claims are being investigated with sensitivity and support offered to those who have come forward.
