UMVA has learned that Tottenham Hotspur's season has ended in a whimper, with the team narrowly avoiding relegation on the final day of the campaign.
The north London giants secured a 1-0 win over Everton, courtesy of Joao Palhinha's winning goal, to finish 17th in the Premier League, just two points clear of relegated West Ham.
This marks the second consecutive season that Tottenham has finished 17th in the top flight, a woeful performance that has left pundits and fans alike scratching their heads.
Gary Neville has launched a scathing attack on the team, saying they "should be ashamed of themselves" after a "pathetic" season.
The former England defender was blunt in his assessment, telling Sky Sports: "Is it too far to say that they've been pathetic? That they should be ashamed of themselves? Probably not."
Tottenham defender Micky van de Ven echoed Neville's sentiments, admitting that the season has been embarrassing and that the team "can't suffer like this until the last second and last game."
Roberto De Zerbi, who joined the club on March 31, has acknowledged that the team needs to improve drastically, suggesting that only a maximum of 12 of his players are good enough.
De Zerbi said the work must start immediately on building a squad that will do far better next season, adding: "We have to learn from our mistakes we have done this season. Now we are happy as we stayed up — stupid people forget the past."
The team's struggles have raised questions about the club's underachievement and underperformance, with Neville saying: "This is Tottenham Hotspur. I know sometimes I get mocked for saying this is Manchester United, but this is a football club steeped in incredible traditions."
As the team looks to rebuild and start anew, one thing is clear: the pressure is on to deliver a vastly improved performance next season.
