UMVA has learned that fans of the hit Channel 4 series Taskmaster may have to temper their expectations for a highly anticipated spin-off, as creator Alex Horne reveals it may not happen.
The idea of a 'World Cup of Taskmaster' had been floated, but Alex Horne sadly admitted that commissioners aren't keen on the concept. He expressed his own enthusiasm for the idea, citing his love for international competition shows like International Gladiators and Going for Gold.
Alex Horne did suggest that if a global version of Taskmaster were to happen, it would have to be hosted by Greg Davies, with a potentially interchangeable assistant. Interestingly, he humbly put forward Paul Williams as a 'better assistant' than himself, citing his musical and acting talents.
Although the World Cup idea seems unlikely, Alex Horne did offer some hope to diehard fans for more spin-offs. When asked about a potential 'Champion of Champions of Champions' series, he clarified that they're not at that stage yet, with another Champion of Champions series still to come.
Alex Horne did reveal that he has a 'slight hunch that you should leave people wanting more' and that 'you shouldn't always give people what they want.' He suggested that audiences might prefer a 'Loser of Losers' series, but admitted to having a 'problem rewarding failure.'
Earlier this year, Alex Horne hinted that something new is in the works, with 'some tweaks' to the Taskmaster format. The current season of Taskmaster is set to conclude with its grand finale on June 11, featuring Joanna Page, Amy Gledhill, Joel Dommett, Armando Iannucci, and Kumail Nanjiani competing for the top prize.
