The Halton Regional Police Service has welcomed a new member to their team: K9 Cache, a specially trained Electronic Storage Detection (ESD) dog. Cache has been assisting investigators since March 2026 and has proven to be a valuable asset in locating concealed electronic evidence.
Deputy Chief Jeff Hill praised Cache's abilities, stating that she has been instrumental in enhancing the effectiveness of investigative operations. Cache's specialized training allows her to detect hidden electronic devices such as cellphones, tablets, and hard drives.
Cache is a labrador retriever-mix, one of only 10 ESD dogs in Canada. She was initially selected and trained by a US-based organization and was donated to the Halton Regional Police Service by a not-for-profit organization dedicated to combating child sexual exploitation and human trafficking.
Cache's primary role is to assist investigators with sexual exploitation and human trafficking investigations. In addition to her investigative duties, she also provides comfort and wellness support to victims of crime, their families, and officers conducting sensitive investigations.
