A chilling plot to assassinate a prominent Israeli figure has been uncovered, leading to the arrest of a 22-year-old Haifa resident. Ami Gaydarov, now in custody, allegedly participated in a sophisticated scheme orchestrated by Iranian agents, a dangerous game of shadows played out on Israeli soil.
The investigation revealed Gaydarov was recruited in August 2025, receiving approximately $23,000 – primarily in cryptocurrency – for his role in preparing for the attack. He was tasked with gathering intelligence and, crucially, constructing a bomb, all while remaining unaware of who the intended target was.
Authorities discovered Gaydarov rented a downtown Haifa apartment, transforming it into a clandestine laboratory for bomb-making. He meticulously documented his progress, sending videos and photographs to his Iranian handler as proof of his commitment to the deadly mission.
The intended victim is now believed to be former Prime Minister Naftali Bennett, a revelation that came after a gag order on the arrest was lifted, allowing details of the case to emerge. This targeted attack underscores the escalating tensions and the lengths to which adversaries will go.
