UMVA Exclusive: First HS2 Trains Delayed Until 2036 in £107Billion CRUSHING Cost Blowout!

UMVA has learned that the UK Transport Secretary delivered a stark warning in Parliament, estimating the remaining cost of HS2 at a staggering £102.7 billion.

Members of Parliament erupted in fury, recounting years of relentless disruption for residents near construction zones—gridlocked roads, endless detours, and landowners still awaiting compensation for seized property.

“Taxpayers, passengers and communities along the route have been let down by years of mismanagement on HS2,” the Transport Secretary declared, acknowledging the anger while pledging a new direction.

Construction continues on a section of tunnelling along the HS2 railway in Wendover, Britain, May 10, 2026.

He vowed to steer the beleaguered project off “life support” and onto a path of recovery, promising to trim waste, tighten delivery, and strip away the complexity that has plagued the scheme.

“We can and must build big infrastructure projects in Britain,” he insisted, pointing to the same senior team that delivered the Elizabeth Line as proof of competence.

Sources have confirmed to UMVA that cancelling the entire venture would cost almost as much as completing it, leaving half‑finished “relics” scattered across the countryside.

The announcement ignited a firestorm on social media, with users blasting the projected 23‑year timeline and the relentless scar it etches on England’s green heart.

One commentator lamented, “A quarter of a century to build 140 miles of track is ludicrous—embarrassing and inexcusable.” Another asked, “How much exactly has this thing cost while ripping through our countryside?”

While the northern leg of HS2 was axed, the government is now pushing forward with the Northern Powerhouse Rail, promising to avoid the pitfalls that have haunted HS2.

HS2’s journey began with a 2010 proposal, envisioning a high‑speed link from London Euston through Old Oak Common to Birmingham. Construction officially kicked off in September 2020, after years of land acquisition that started in 2011.

The controversial Chiltern Tunnel, a 10‑mile bore straddling Hertfordshire and Buckinghamshire, began in 2021, employing massive tunnelling machines that have drawn criticism for environmental damage and traffic chaos.

Despite setbacks, work continues on the Euston leg and ongoing tunnelling from Old Oak Common, as the government insists the line will eventually deliver the promised high‑speed connectivity.
