A chilling call to arms has emerged from the Iranian embassy in London, directly appealing to expatriates in the UK. The embassy posted a message soliciting volunteers for a campaign explicitly framed around sacrificing one’s life for Iran.
The recruitment drive, disseminated via Telegram, invites “brave and distinguished children of Iran” to register for a “Sacrificing Life for the Homeland Campaign.” The language employed is steeped in nationalistic fervor, promising to etch a “golden page” in Iran’s history and demonstrate unwavering loyalty.
The message culminates in a stark poetic verse, drawn from the revered Persian epic, the Shahnameh – the “Book of Kings.” Translated by experts in Persian studies, the verse powerfully states: “Better that we all of us lay down our lives, than surrender our country to the foe.”
Registration for this campaign is being facilitated through Mikhak, an official online portal operated by the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The Telegram post itself has garnered significant engagement, with hundreds of heart reactions and numerous expressions of support.
The announcement has sparked immediate concern among Iranian diaspora groups. United4Mahsa, a campaign organization, views this as evidence of a regime desperate for resources, resorting to recruiting individuals – potentially including those within the UK – to carry out hostile acts.
Political figures have also voiced strong condemnation. Concerns are being raised about the potential for the Iranian embassy to utilize British soil as a recruiting ground, and calls are mounting for the Iranian ambassador to be summoned for explanation.
This development arrives amidst heightened security alerts. The Metropolitan Police recently warned of potential attacks on the Jewish community in London, possibly orchestrated by Iranian proxies recruited online as “thugs for hire.”
A group claiming responsibility for recent firebombings targeting Jewish sites, Ashab al-Yamin, is believed to have potential links to Iran, further intensifying anxieties about the embassy’s recruitment efforts and their potential consequences.
Authorities are now facing increased pressure to investigate the situation thoroughly and ensure the safety of the British public, while simultaneously reassessing diplomatic relations with the Iranian regime.
