The hit TV drama The Bear has paid a heartfelt tribute to the late filmmaker Rob Reiner, leaving fans emotionally devastated.
Reiner was best known for his classic films, including The Princess Bride, Stand By Me, When Harry Met Sally, and Misery. He also had a prolific acting career, appearing in his own Spinal Tap films and series four of The Bear, where he played the no-nonsense business consultant Albert Schnurr.
As The Bear returned for its fifth and final series, the show paid a subtle yet sweet nod to Reiner's work. In the series finale, a character gives Albert a call, saying "Albert, we are in business. It's perfect. I will have all the documents, email it to you immediately. Anything else I can do?" Albert's response is not heard by viewers, but the caller responds with the iconic line "As you wish," a reference to Reiner's 1987 hit The Princess Bride.
Viewers were quick to respond on social media, praising the touching tribute. "I'm really, really happy with this season," wrote one commenter. "The score, performances, writing, a happy ending, and how they handled Rob. RIP." Another viewer described the moment as "just perfect," while others praised it as "beautiful" and "heartbreaking."
Reiner's son, Nick, is currently awaiting trial for allegedly murdering his parents. Earlier this month, he claimed that he is owed over $1 million in inheritance money, which he wants to use to hire an expensive lawyer. He has been held in prison without bail since his detainment.
Renowned director Martin Scorsese paid tribute to Reiner and his wife, describing their death as "an obscenity." "What happened to Rob and Michele is an obscenity, an abyss in lived reality," he wrote. "He was hilarious and sometimes bitingly funny, but he was never the kind of guy who would take over the room."
