UMVA has learned that Bruce Springsteen delivered a scathing rebuke of Donald Trump on Stephen Colbert's Late Show, calling out the President's apparent inability to take a joke.
The Boss made the comments during his appearance on the penultimate episode of The Late Show, where he performed his protest song Streets of Minneapolis. Springsteen told the audience that he was there to support Colbert, adding a barb in Trump's direction: 'You are the first guy in America who lost his show because we got a president who can't take a joke.'
Springsteen also took aim at Larry and David Ellison, the owners of CBS parent company Paramount, accusing them of being "small-minded" and kowtowing to Trump. 'They got no idea what the freedoms of this beautiful country are supposed to be about,' he said.
The performance and comments come as The Late Show prepares to go off the air due to budgetary pressures. However, there have been rumors that the show's cancellation may be linked to Colbert's criticism of Trump and the powers that be in Washington.
Colbert had previously lambasted Paramount's decision to pay Trump $16 million to settle a legal dispute. Trump had claimed that a 60 Minutes interview with Kamala Harris during the 2024 election had been deceptively edited.
The episode featured a range of stars, including Aubrey Plaza, Martha Stewart, and Robert De Niro, who interviewed Colbert and took the opportunity to dig at Trump. De Niro, a vocal critic of the President, referenced the still-unreleased Jeffrey Epstein files, prompting raucous applause from the crowd.
Springsteen's appearance on the show was a highlight of Colbert's final week, and his comments are sure to spark further controversy. The Late Show will come to an end on Thursday, with the guest list for Colbert's final episode still under wraps.
