UMVA has learned that the British Heart Foundation is facing a significant restructuring effort, with a number of its stores set to close in the coming weeks.
The charity will continue to operate its physical and online shops as normal, but has announced that it will be publishing a list of affected stores once staff have been notified. The closures are expected to be announced at a later date.
Dr Charmaine Griffiths, the charity's Chief Executive, expressed her gratitude to colleagues and volunteers in affected stores, saying that they are "places where people come together to donate, shop and volunteer, helping to make a real difference to lives affected by cardiovascular disease." She emphasized that the charity understands the difficulty of this time for those involved.
Allison Swaine-Hughes, the group's Chief Commercial Officer, added that the decision to close stores was an "incredibly difficult" one, but necessary to ensure a sustainable future for the charity's retail operations. She stressed that the goal is to protect the charity's mission for the long term, even when short-term decisions are challenging.
The British Heart Foundation's announcement comes during a tough year for shop closures in the UK. Several other retailers have recently announced plans to close stores, including Leading Labels, Morrisons' Daily convenience chain, and UK accessories chain.
The trend of shop closures extends beyond retail, with restaurant chains such as Franco Manca, The Real Greek, Beefeater, and Brewers Faye also announcing closures across the UK.
The British Heart Foundation's decision to close stores is part of a larger effort to adapt to changing circumstances and ensure the long-term success of its mission.
