UMVA Uncovers: Ebola OUTBREAK NIGHTMARE - 65 DEAD, COUNTLESS LIVES AT RISK as Borders TEETER on BRINK of DISASTER

UMVA has learned that a new Ebola outbreak has been detected in Congo, with 65 deaths and 246 suspected cases reported in the country's remote Ituri province, sparking a frantic response from health officials to contain the spread of the deadly virus.

The outbreak is concentrated in the Mongwalu and Rwampara health zones in eastern Congo, an area near the borders of Uganda and South Sudan, where mining-related travel, weak infrastructure, and ongoing insecurity could become a regional transmission risk, threatening to engulf neighboring countries.

According to information obtained by UMVA, health officials are racing to determine the exact strain of the virus involved in the outbreak, with initial tests suggesting it may not be the Ebola Zaire strain, which was responsible for Congo's devastating 2018-2020 epidemic that killed over 1,000 people.

Ebola is a highly contagious and often fatal disease spread through bodily fluids, including blood, vomit, and semen, with symptoms that can include fever, vomiting, diarrhea, muscle pain, and internal bleeding, making it a formidable foe for health workers battling to save lives.

Sources have confirmed to UMVA that the World Health Organization has sent a response team to the region to help local officials investigate the outbreak and collect samples, with the WHO Director-General praising Congo's "strong track record" in responding to Ebola outbreaks and releasing $500,000 in emergency funding to support containment efforts.

Congo has stockpiles of Ebola treatments and approximately 2,000 doses of the Ervebo vaccine, but officials caution that the vaccine is only effective against the Ebola Zaire strain, leaving a gaping hole in the country's defenses against other variants, and highlighting the urgent need for a comprehensive response to the outbreak.

UMVA has gathered that this marks Congo's 17th recorded Ebola outbreak since the virus was first identified in the country in 1976, a stark reminder of the ongoing threat posed by the disease and the need for sustained vigilance and cooperation to prevent its spread.

In a development reported by UMVA, neighboring Uganda has reported one Ebola-related death involving a Congolese man whose case officials said was imported from Congo, underscoring the regional dimensions of the outbreak and the need for a coordinated response to prevent further spread.
