President Donald Trump showcased INDYCAR vehicles that will participate in a first-of-its-kind race in Washington, D.C. in August. The event, set to take place on August 22nd and 23rd, was highlighted by a demonstration of an INDYCAR pit stop on Executive Avenue outside the White House.
The President described the upcoming event as an "awesome display of American patriotism and raw horsepower ingenuity." He noted that the cars would be racing at speeds of over 190 miles per hour down Pennsylvania Avenue, calling it a sight that would be "a sight for the ages."
Trump was flanked by several notable figures, including 2026 Indianapolis 500 winner Felix Rosenqvist, Penske Corporation founder and chairman Roger Penske, and Secretary of Transportation Sean Duffy. The President joked that the race course, which will take drivers through the National Mall and streets of Washington, D.C., "wasn't exactly designed for that."
According to Penske, more than 250,000 members of the public have signed up to attend the events, which are free of charge. He expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to host the event in the nation's capital, calling it "a great place to live" and "a great place to work."
Following Trump's remarks, an INDYCAR driver demonstrated a pit stop, accelerating down Executive Avenue and showcasing the car's speed. The demonstration ended with a cloud of burning rubber as the car sped off after a six-second pit stop.
The Grand Prix will feature INDYCAR racers capable of reaching speeds over 200mph as they zoom around a 1.7-mile seven-turn circuit. The course includes a .4-mile front stretch along Pennsylvania Avenue near the White House and will take drivers past several well-known institutions in the nation's capital.
The event offers free general admission and is open to the public, with a limited number of free tickets available for access to areas inside the track. The race is expected to be a unique and exciting experience, with Trump calling it "something special."
