TRUMP ON THE ROPES: Impeachment EXPLODES in Senate!

TRUMP ON THE ROPES: Impeachment EXPLODES in Senate!

A growing chorus of Democratic voices in the Senate is now demanding the removal of President Donald Trump from office, fueled by escalating tensions with Iran.

Senator Andy Kim of New Jersey bluntly stated the president is “unfit for office,” advocating for removal through either the 25th Amendment or impeachment proceedings.

This shift within the Democratic party represents a significant hardening of their stance, moving beyond attempts to limit presidential war powers to outright calls for his ouster.

The catalyst for this surge in opposition was President Trump’s stark warning regarding Iran – a declaration that a “whole civilization will die” should the Strait of Hormuz remain closed.

While the sentiment is stronger within the House of Representatives, Senator Kim joins a small but growing number of Senate Democrats – including Chris Murphy, Ed Markey, and Ron Wyden – echoing these demands.

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, while stopping short of calling for impeachment, is pushing for a fourth war powers resolution, aiming to curb the president’s authority in the region amidst a fragile ceasefire.

However, the practical realities of Washington make these calls for removal highly improbable, as Republicans currently control both the Senate and the House of Representatives.

Invoking the 25th Amendment, a process never before used against a sitting president, faces even steeper hurdles, requiring the Vice President, a majority of the Cabinet, and a two-thirds Congressional vote.

Senator Sheldon Whitehouse acknowledged the unlikelihood of success given the current composition of the president’s administration, describing it as a “Cabinet of sycophants and eccentrics.”

Despite the long odds, Democrats see this as a potential preview of their strategy should they achieve significant gains in the upcoming midterm elections.

Meanwhile, Republicans largely continue to support the president’s actions, with Senator John Barrasso asserting that Iran has been at war with the United States for nearly five decades.

Barrasso emphasized a strategy of “American peace through strength,” claiming the current operation has achieved “incredible success” by targeting Iranian missiles and undermining their nuclear capabilities.

The White House has yet to respond to requests for comment regarding the escalating calls for the president’s removal.
