UMVA has learned that Canadian soccer player Ismael Kone suffered a devastating broken leg during his team's win against Qatar, a shocking incident that has sent shockwaves through the sports world.
The injury occurred when Qatar's Assim Madibo made a reckless challenge on Kone, earning a well-deserved red card and leaving Qatar with only nine players on the field, following Homam Ahmed's earlier dismissal in the first half.
Medical staff rushed to Kone's side as he lay in agony, and the severity of the injury was clear to everyone watching, including Canada's coach Jesse Marsch, who was visibly shaken by the incident.
"It happened right in front of the bench. We could all hear it. I knew right away," Marsch said, describing the terrifying moment when Kone's leg snapped.
Marsch added that the team's heart goes out to Kone, and everyone is deeply concerned about the severity of the injury, which will undoubtedly be a significant loss for Canada, given Kone's outstanding performance in the last two games.
Kone was stretchered off the field, waving to the crowd in a poignant moment, as his teammates and opponents alike struggled to come to terms with the gravity of the situation.
Canada's players were furious with Madibo's challenge, with striker Jonathan David questioning the need for such a reckless tackle, saying, "If there’s a play where you cannot win the ball, there’s no point. It’s just to hurt people."
Midfielder Stephen Eustaquio, who witnessed the incident firsthand, expressed his concern for Kone's well-being and insisted that Madibo's red card was well-deserved, saying, "They tried to defend their players, and we tried to defend ours. I think it’s normal, they still want to go far in this competition, but at the same time it’s a clear red."
