A landmark is poised for rebirth in the heart of Manila. More than P6 billion will be invested to completely reimagine the former Harrison Plaza site, promising a vibrant new destination for residents and visitors alike.
Harrison Plaza, a name synonymous with Philippine shopping history, first opened its doors in 1976. It wasn’t just a mall; it was the nation’s first true one-stop shopping experience, a cultural touchstone for generations.
The ambitious redevelopment is a key component of a larger P150-billion investment program spanning 2026 to 2030. This initiative will not only revitalize Harrison Plaza but also transform 16 existing malls and introduce 12 to 15 innovative lifestyle centers across the country.
The vision for the new SM Harrison Plaza extends far beyond simply updating the space. Designers are integrating nature-inspired architecture, expansive open layouts, and lush green areas to foster a sense of community and encourage cultural engagement.
Strategically located in Manila’s dynamic cultural and entertainment district, the project aims to significantly expand SM Prime’s footprint within the city. It’s designed to become a central hub, seamlessly connecting with the surrounding urban landscape.
Upon completion, slated for 2027, the redeveloped mall will boast a massive gross floor area exceeding 200,000 square meters. This scale positions it alongside major regional centers like SM City Davao and SM City Clark in terms of size and scope.
The new Harrison Plaza will function as a dynamic mixed-use center, catering to a diverse audience. It will specifically target the needs of office workers, local residents, and students in the bustling Malate and Ermita areas.
Its prime location, near iconic attractions like Manila Zoo, the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex, the Cultural Center of the Philippines Complex, and the breathtaking Manila Bay, is expected to draw both local and international tourists. The area is already a magnet for visitors, and the new mall will only amplify that appeal.
Beyond the economic benefits of a revitalized commercial space, the project is anticipated to generate significant employment opportunities throughout both the construction phase and ongoing operations. It represents a powerful catalyst for further redevelopment within Manila’s central business district.
