UMVA has learned that a tense and dramatic press conference unfolded at the G7 Summit in Evian, France, on Wednesday, as President Trump clashed with the media, labeling several major outlets as "Fake News" and expressing frustration with their coverage.
The President's press conference was held to discuss a memorandum of understanding with Iran, which he and US officials read aloud to the press, highlighting 14 key points. The event quickly turned into a heated exchange, with Trump taking aim at leftist media outlets, including ABC, NBC, CNN, and the New York Times.
When asked by a Fox reporter how he planned to convince a skeptical American public that the deal was a win, Trump acknowledged it wouldn't be easy, citing the "bad press" he'd receive from the media "no matter what." He emphasized the need for a fair press, suggesting that the media's lack of credibility was a major factor in their poor performance.
Trump specifically targeted ABC, calling it "horrible," and also criticized NBC and CBS as "terrible." He expressed frustration that he never received good stories, regardless of his actions, and that the media consistently portrayed him in a negative light.
The President also called out a reporter from ABC, telling them "You're from ABC. You're fake news. Go ahead," before taking a question on US sanctions against Iran. He explained that the deal would be performance-based, with Iran receiving sanctions relief only if they behaved.
Trump went on to criticize Democrats' polling numbers, questioning the accuracy of polls and labeling certain reporters as "dishonest." He expressed confidence in the Republican party's growing strength, citing the Democrats' decision to send what he described as "lunatics" to run in the general elections.
The President pointed to a specific example, mentioning a Maine Senate candidate, and contrasted him with Trump's own record, which he claimed had been unfairly maligned by the media for years.
