A lingering promise from a satirical candidate is causing ongoing frustration for residents in west London. The hand dryer in the men's toilets of the Crown and Treaty pub, which was pledged to be relocated to a more convenient spot, remains in place. This was one of the early commitments made by Count Binface, a sentient wheelie bin who is now a candidate in the Clacton by-election.
The Crown and Treaty pub, a historic building where King Charles I once held an unsuccessful treaty, is located alongside a busy road. Patrons have expressed discomfort with the hand dryer's placement, which is situated close to the urinal and sink. According to a male patron, using the urinal on the far right side triggers the hand dryer, creating an awkward experience.
The pub's owners, Guna and Anu Sachdeva, who took over in October, have been dealing with prank calls and online comments about the hand dryer. Initially, they didn't understand the context, but two men cycled from Ealing to see the hand dryer, explaining the situation to them. The pub has since received numerous Google reviews, with one reviewer requesting the hand dryer be relocated to a more sensible position.
The pub's management is now considering moving the hand dryer. Guna Sachdeva stated that they are open to relocating it if Count Binface wants to discuss the matter with them. The hand dryer's placement is not straightforward, with limited wall space and a small area behind the entrance door. Despite this, the owners are willing to find a new location if it will alleviate the issue.
